Often times when we think of spending money, we look towards local business to solve problems we may have out of the wellness of the community. Whether it’s shopping at a local grocery store like Hyvee or Midtown instead of Walmart, we do this to give back to the community of our small business owners and keep the town thriving as a flourishing business district. We do this so that the local business will continue to give back to its community as well, perpetuating a positive “what goes around comes around” mentality. Using local business as leverage for a cause, Alex and Ani makes elegant jewelry out of 100% recycled metal, and on top of that, it started a movement dedicated to giving back to the community through an organization called “Charity By Design.”
Since its establishment in 2011, Alex and Ani has given $52.2 Million to charities by simply donating 20% of profits from production, and has been a great impact on its community. Through inspiring, unique jewelry, Alex and Ani strives to support organizations with strong ties to empowerment, health and wellness, the planet, and children’s’ education. Through design partnership and special events for various charities, Charity By Design has aided in giving lunches to 11,000 students in need for a year through Blessings in a Backpack, providing more than 20,000 meals for families through SOS village, and many more contributions to the wellbeing of humankind and the environment alike.
Along with the powerful prevalence Alex and Ani portrays in its charitable commerce, it also seeks to help people find themselves and others in harmony with their collection. True to each crafted piece lies a sentimental message for which the charm and the jewelry itself stands for, creating a personal impact along with a community benefit holistically. From the beginning, Alex and Ani jewelry has created more than just accessories, rather it has used the profitability of its success in the accessory industry to help people embrace themselves as who they truly are, as well as bringing people together in the community to form a cohesive collaboration dedicated to helping those in need.
